Frequently Asked Questions
QWhere is the Wallet database located?
AYour Wallet database resides in the ~/Library/Application Support/Wallet/ directory. Wallet preferences are located at ~/Library/Preferences/com.waterfallsw.Wallet.plist.
QHow do I edit a group?
ATo edit a group, you can either double click the group itself or choose "Edit Group" from the group menu.
QHow does AutoFill work?
AAutoFill works by first finding information in an entry from a group used for web accounts, and filling the form out in your browser. Wallet will take it's best guess to try and figure out the correct headings in the group. Use the default group 'Web Services' if you want to see how this works.
To use AutoFill, simply click the AutoFill button (the pencil) located at the top right the entry view. This button will not be visible if there is no usable data in the entry.
QWhy doesn't AutoFill support my favorite browser?
AWallet only supports the browsers listed (Safari, OmniWeb, and Internet Explorer) due to their scripting functionality needed for Wallet's AutoFill. If other browsers add the required scripting support in the future, we'll be happy to update Wallet accordingly.
QCan I import my Wallet 1.0 database?
AUnfortunately, you can not directly import your Wallet 1 database into Wallet 2. You can however export a tab-delimited text file in Wallet 1, and import that with Wallet 2. It (almost) works just as well!
QWhat's the difference between Keychain and Wallet?
AWhile Keychain is a system-integrated way to keep track of built in passwords, it is not at all flexible for other types of data. Wallet exceeds as a small-scale database to keep track of everything you need to securely store and organize.
QThe field tabbing order is all out of whack! What's up?
AIt seems that Wallet has difficulties with "Full Keyboard Access" set to "All controls". To fix this, simply open the System Preferences, select Keyboard & Mouse, go to the "Keyboard Shortcuts" tab, and set Full Keyboard Access back to text boxes and lists only. Everything should work fine again.
QI've noticed opening Wallet is becoming progressively slower over time. What can I do to fix this?
ASometimes Wallet can experience minor slowdowns if you have a very large Access Log. To fix this, go to Window ▸ Access Log and click the "Clear" button in the lower left hand corner. As well, you can choose to disable Access Log completely in the Preferences window.
QDo you plan on supporting Palm syncing in the future?
ACurrently we have no plans to support Palm. The only device that is supported with Wallet at the moment is the iPod.
QWhat about the iPhone?
AWhen a software development kit (SDK) becomes available for the iPhone, we'll be happy to create an iPhone-compatible version of Wallet.
