Importing & Exporting Databases
Importing and exporting different types of databases in Wallet is one of the best features! You can export databases for backup or moving to another computer, then import them with ease. You can even encrypt and password protect them.

Importing.

In Wallet you can import and export two types of databases. To import a normal Wallet 2 database, simply go to File ▸ Import ▸ Wallet Database... You will be prompted to enter a password, and then you will be asked if you want to make this an addition to your current database or replace it all. To import a tab-delimited text file, use File ▸ Import ▸ Tab-Delimited Text... Since these files do not save group data, all entries will be added to the first group in your list. You can easily drag and drop them to other categories, if needed.
Why can't I open standard Wallet 1.x databases?
Wallet 2 was completely rewritten from the ground up in a totally different programming language. Although importing from Wallet 1 seemed possible at the time, we were surprised to find out that the encryption algorithm altered somewhat. This left us deeply saddened that we could not allow Wallet 1 importing in Wallet 2.

However, you can export your database in tab-delimited text form and import that into Wallet. Your groups won't be saved, but it's better than nothing. Thanks for your patience with us!

Exporting.

Use File ▸ Export to do all of your exporting. When you export a Wallet database, you will need to create a password to encrypt the file with.

Wallet 2 databases are used to backup your database to another location, such as an external hard-drive, or on a web server. Tab-delimited text files are usually only used for importing into other applications, as they are completely unsecure.

Please note: Tab-Delimited Text Files are unencrypted and can be read with any text editor when exported. Use with caution!
